falk records will be releasing ‘spaces’ from icelandic experimental producer aaiieenn this august. aaiieenn is the solo project of electronic musician hallmar gauti halldórsson. halldórsson first came to music though being a mover and shaker in iceland’s punk and hardcore scene where he was the “harsh noise guy” with local band distill the world. with aaiieenn however, halldórsson moved away from the guitars and screaming to a fully electronic world of experimental synth music and gorging on the mathematical possibilities and expanses of arpeggio/sequencer driven ambient music. ‘calab-yau’ and ‘continuous property 1’ drip shards of pure crystalline sound into deep crevasses as harmonic droplets ping of gleaming surfaces coated with spongiform bass. the light and effervescent ‘euclidean’ evokes classic ambient works aphex twin, while ‘manifold’ is more direct with a muscular and sturdy bassline. spaces closes with the fluttering and lush ambient sounds of ‘zariksi’ that are carried into the skies by a pulsing and gliding techno beat.

digging deep into the chicago rave vaults to re-issue the debut ep from billy nightmare aka “mystic bill” torres. ‘reality check’ consists of 4 tracks, recorded at mirage studios in chicago in 1996. two tracks on the a-side are dark thumpers and will haunt your head for days. side b has 2 versions of the same song, lighter and funkier in mood both show the diversity mystic bill is capable of producing. all songs have been remastered by george horn at fantasy studios. each ep is housed in a custom designed jacket by eloise leigh featuring a 90s photo of billy nightmare staring into tv static and includes a postcard with notes.

georgia-born, brooklyn-based sophia saze set up dusk & haze to release ‘genre-free’ experimental music, exhibited in the label’s debut release entitled ’solace’ ep featuring four versatile cuts from sophia herself and twisted electro and techno remixes from umwelt and benjamin damage. the second release comes from the enigmatic sdx, a masked artist who’s fiercely championed left-of-centre dance music for decades. crunchy drums and a thumping bassline kick things off in ‘ms 04’ before los angeles duo 138 provide an outstanding remix incorporating a cacophony of raw breaks. modulated flutters, warped blips and white noise create ‘ms 08’, leading into the organic drums and off-kilter arpeggios of ‘007’ until new york’s sc- 164 reworks ‘007’ delivering a pulsating sub and distorted vocal chops. sdx’s ‘nocturnal’ drops on dusk & haze on 10th september 2018.

industrial metal visionary author & punisher delivers his sixth full-length recording and relapse debut beastland. drawing inspiration from his career as a mechanical engineer, tristan shone (the creator and sole artist behind author & punisher) forged a relationship with design, sound, and fabrication that ultimately yielded his hand-built “drone machines” which mapped the journey away from traditional instrumentation towards custom made -precision machinery.- a robotic experimentation in industrial metal, noise, doom and drone, author & punisher recalls nine inch nails channeling godflesh, traversing through dark, uncompromising, and often disturbing soundscapes with occasional detours into rich melodies and splinters of light. armed with newly built “drone machines” and a new label, beastland is author & punisher’s career-defining statement and a powerful listening experience that further blurs the line between man and machine. the vinyl release includes a download code.

the jamaican sonia pottinger was once called “the most important jamaican woman involved in music business”. dancing down orange street is a collection of some of her famous productions for different artists. the album captures the moment when rocksteady transformed into reggae by speeding up a little and moving towards a more jerky and less smooth musical palette. famous singers as delano stewart and ken boothe are present on the album with multiple tracks. the vocal trio the melodians (known for their hit “rivers of babylon”) provide a couple of beautifull songs. even after all those years (released for the first time in 1969) the compilation remains a treasure of showcasing some of the finest songs produced by sonia. sonia pottinger was married to music producer lyndon pottinger and started to record musicians in 1996. during the late 60’s she produced songs for joe white, the melodians and toots & the maytals.

the free fall, to dive head first into something, is scary for most people. for some it is the most exciting thing however and the only possible path anyways. florian is one of those driven artists who never sounds the same, his signature tone is the free fall into new soundscapes, new ways of using his analog electronic instruments and carving out the essence for the dancing individual.

k.a.c.z.m.a.r.e.k”, from the title to the sounds, is intended to be a more personal project for paul ritch – indelibly closer to the confluences of sounds that he hears embodying the spirit of kaczmarek. he drives the mind’s eye deep into the inner-ear with the album’s spacious opening tracks, only to leave your head bobbing with the extraterrestrial rhythms that emerge as the main body of the album. moody and foreboding, loaded with the scattered, staccato and broken beats, more ovular than linear in composition and ranging from vaporous-ambience to hyperventilating grooves, the nine tracks on this album defy categorisation. the “k.a.c.z.m.a.r.e.k” album will give the listener a deep well to return to. the vinyl release will be a fittingly rare issue – only 100 numbered copies are going out, while digital releases will run parallel. keeping with the dark and cryptic theme of the first releases russian artist, sasha sime, is back for his third kczmrk cover design

we are proud to present the first ever vinyl issue of jon krocker’s debut album ‘monolog’ originally released on cassette in 1983. the 12 instrumental tracks are stark and minimal, at times anxious but overall space orientated and flexible. all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. each copy includes an 8-page newsprint zine featuring ephemera, press clippings, photos and liner notes by jon.

heat in two belgian flavors! check out the zaïrian electronic dance floor banger “nakombe nga” by les choc stars. comes with the dope, largely unheard belgium new beat version on the flip from the teknokrat s. both tracks were originally released in 1989 and this is the first time they appear together on 12-. reissue co-curated with renowned record fiend john gomez. the music on this winning double-sider was written by tony baron and gery françois, two belgian producers that were involved in several musical projects on the new beat scene in the 1980s. they worked under many aliases and recorded the teknokrat’s haunting “what did she say?” at the famous studio madeleine in brussels in 1989. prompted by jean martin from espera records, baron adapted the music into a further two songs to be released that year, virginity’s melancholic “the key”, and the surprising but ear catching collaboration with the label’s soukous stars, ben nyamabos les choc stars du zaire. it is still a mystery how the seeds were planted for the one-off pairing that culminated in the electronic soukous bomb “nakombe nga”. what is certain is that it is set to light up dancefloors worldwide.

the raptures luke jenner ventures firmly into the dance floor, this time in full force, on glittering jewel, the brooklyn-based producers debut ep under his meditation tunnel guise. red axes come through with an unclassifiable, stripped-down reinterpretation of fire fly, the perfect pair to deconstruct and re-contextualize the original material.

the flamboyant and off-kilter title track from rones latest album, mirapolis is one of the last solo tracks that the producer composed in the spring of 2017: its one of the rare tracks on the album for which i thought about the live performance. while putting the final touches to it in the studio, i imagined myself at festivals via memories of previous tours. i wanted to record a festive track, which completely stands by its funfair vibe. with this new four-track ep (including three remixes), combined with a new video by aurélie castex, rone extends the carnival of electronic cultures of his latest musical citadel to the dancefloor – and our screens. johannes brecht, shadow craftsman of the hamburg label diyanamics studios, offers a refined reading throbbing with cerebral pulsations. appropriating the main theme in a subtle way, coated with multiple harmonic layers, his textures alternate white noise with organic basses that builds up to a delightfully classical cello outro. german-based figurehead of the south american scene, comeme label boss and founding member of the late closer music project, matias aguayo, has never ceased throughout his career to set off little revolutions on the planet of demanding dancefloors. playful and wild, aguayo sweeps in with a ritornello of chiptune sounds and orchestral arrangements, washing it over with a huge wave of analog synthesizers that destroys everything in its path. french techno scene boss laurent garnier embraces the original piece in all its meticulousness and its psychedelic lifeblood. a hypnotic and mischievous loop infiltrates itself without warning into the reptilian cells of the listeners brain.

new glasgow electro and techno label tremors presents our first vinyl release - aftershocks volume 1, a collection of remixes of tracks from our bandcamp releases. the a1 comes from electro legend dexter, a man who needs no introduction, remixing old boy s tracer. next up is james shinra (analogical force) one of our favourite contemporary electro artists, remixing arctor memory gene. on the b-side we have patrick walker (forward strategy group) remixing arctor s selfish lover into a slamming acid techno banger. rounding it off is relatively unknown hungarian producer david harleydson who has been self-releasing highly impressive electro albums through bandcamp. he has applied his own unique style in a remix of arctor the gulf.

(2x12 inch gatefold lp+cd) kinobe scored one of the biggest chill-out club hits of the noughties, the deathless slip into something more comfortable. known from dancefloors, club backrooms, bars, radio spins, cafe del mar compilations and tv spots the world over - most famously the femme fatale kronenbourg beer advert - slip established the duo at the forefront of a scene that still includes groove armada, air, royksopp and zero 7.

koova returns to brokntoys for a second ep after his empty spaces. conducere presents the producer showcasing his personal take on the genre, with 4 tracks of tense, melodic electro. one of the founders behind the london modular alliance, he has released sought after eps on cpu, ac and abstract forms. the ep is backed up by a remix by max ravitz aka patricia who takes the originals into eerie, ghostly territory.

as summer sets into fall, we deliver an ep that functions like one of those lights-on hand-clappers you get when the djs been asked to kill the music at the end of a long, sweaty night but for the season. its a last-ditch effort to keep the sun shining and the temperature high, a final bid to keep the days starting early and ending late. we know the inevitable is around the corner, but for a moment more we can pretend its not.

marcellus pittman s is back with his second ep of 2018 on his own unirhythm records. the jewel here is pittman s 2007 acidic masterpiece -there s somebody out there- getting the edit treatment from chicago s jamie 326, who whips the original into a hypnotic bender. -something like (a dream)- is an upbeat key-driven vocal house cut in pittman s flowing style with bits of vocals floating over the mix. -breathe beat- is a low key bouncer stripped down to the raw elements with floating synths hovering over a minimal shuffling beat

the first release on tava discs arrives courtesy of label-founder beigean, confidently establishing their remit of discovering and showcasing charismatic house and techno from a gritty, diy perspective. influenced by a diverse joyful musical upbringing of east coast hip-hop, turn of the millennium tribal techno, uk bass, punjabi folk and bollywood disco, each of the four tracks on beigean s ep flawlessly but daringly weave each of these specific musical avenues into hyper-specific and utterly physical tapestries of sound, road-tested and engineered to turn open-minded dancefloors outside of their heads.

rob belleville is a producer from the netherlands. his music can be found in the same space as producers such as arne weinberg, microworld, sean deason and drivetrain. he is know for moving between ambient electronica and atmospheric techno sounds, always warm and well produced. this release is no different, as here we have two very special tracks with the same integrity as anything rob has written in the past. on the a side we ve got implacable force which features a driving techno foundation and washy synths, interwoven for perfect headspace. the second track in is sungazing, which takes you into a more lazy groove with swirling, warm pads and more good drum programming. the b side features rise n shine and sands of time, both blurring the line between deep house and techno, with a fine balance between the melodic textures and tech house percussion. if you like atmospheric, melodic textures and quality music in general, this one is for you.

the debut ep release from amduscias (the evil doppelganger of an already known producer) presents a selection of tracks woven with british folklore and occultist connotation taking the fringes of uk bass music into a dark twisted new pasture, bass and beats ready for the dancefloor but equally horrifying to the headphone listener - skewing techno and dubstep to its farthest reaches.

hailing from wellington, aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud, scent is a newcomer to the scene but long time gc of modern hypnosis. his first sighting featured a track ‘devils dread’ on indigo movement’s 5-year digital compilation december 2017. heaving at 140 beats per minute, ‘trax’ creates a certain energy similar to early jungle riddims. chopped percussion, giant synth stabs, weighty driving kicks with underlining sub bass and the odd flute build the track to a halt before commencing it’s minimal technoesq break down. ‘just a dream’ a rooted scentimental dub which takes you deep into a place amongst your rem sleep with sparse whaling strings and swinging percs. scent debut solo release. one to watch.

rekids regular markus suckut drops his third album entitled heaven is a state of mind this september. when not helming his own imprints, sckt and pattern research, the dusseldorf artist has been releasing on rekids since 2015 and is now a core member of the labels family. earlier this year saw the arrival of new life ep, a mesmerising release exemplary of the producer’s knack for making imaginative house and techno complete with a compelling groove. no stranger to the long player format having released two albums previously, markus suckut returns to radio slaves label with a quality nine-track album. from the word go suckuts album demonstrates his versatility as a musician, initiating with a beatless intro named escape, before breeze comes into play with its skipping percussion and loopy atmospherics. crunchy snares and crystalline synths make up suns out whilst future is not always bright drives forward with its sultry low-end, ethereal pads and sci-fi bleeps, leading into take a break and its medley of elaborate drums, living up to its name. above the clouds is comprised of intricate notes and soothing chords whilst the machinelike orchid features electro inspired melodies, contrasting to the albums title track, heaven is a state of mind, with its bumpy bass and warping textures. wonderland (version) is a ghostly acid cut which suitably closes the album

long time scene stalwart darren price is stepping out on brand new label, kilsha music, with a fantastic ep of monster house tracks arriving. opener charm offensive is a fantastic ten-minute trip into loose limbed techno. drums, bass and percussion all wrap and weave around each other and melt your mind in the process. a rasping lead synth eventually becomes the focal point as background chords bring real soul. the brilliantly bristling everybody jack (uw live maschine mix) is a full fat track with busy textured synths, sci-fi effects and old school jack vocals that will really work the dance floor into a lather. its dynamic and ever evolving, with plenty of tense peaks and troughs throughout to keep the floor on its toes. the final vinyl track is this is house music, a deeper cut with warm, warbling bass and a muted acid line spraying about the mix. it slowly builds the pressure in heady fashion and is one to really hypnotise.

robotron is the machine formerly known as xinner. this is its first offering for the esp institute. side as dream resonator is an idiosyncratic network dexterous machine drum/percussion programming, an ebb and flow of floating arpeggios, syncopated counter-melodies and a hail of stabbing stringscontinually diffusing into ethereal vapor all stacked into an (aptly-named) orchestral anthem. side bs ice takes a similar approach with arrangement, each instrument carving out its place in the tracks mechanics for a glorious convergence of patterns, but, where side a proves optimistic, here we sense a more menacing undercurrent, an austerity powerfully articulated through towering kicks and claps so compressed they fill up every dark corner of negative space. indeed, robotron has an innate command for building and calibrating robust systems, but beneath this calculated veil we find the remnant human behavior of xinner. these two songs will whisper loudly but scream quietly.

focusing on low-slung idm, acid and atmospheric electro with nods to krautrock & ambient sounds, steve hy-lands attraktta project gets an extended outing on the film label. across eight beautifully produced tracks, hyland - one of the founding members of ai records and subsequently concrete plastic, explores vibrant synthesis and intricate drum programming, with the music arriving at a sweet spot between home listening material & club-ready workouts for more intelligent dance floors. eschewing straightforward synth sequences in favour of blissed out - almost disharmonious sonics, hyland trans-mits a curious psychedelia on his debut lp. sounds pitch and warp organically, buoyed up by saturated low end and punchy drum machine percussion. there remains a decidedly accomplished precision to the work, though - with the music bearing all the hallmarks of an artist of some considerable experience - testament to the british pro-ducer & label heads 19 years working in the industry. a colourful, exquisitely composed lp that riffs on a timeless production aesthetic with considerable style, echo principle is a fantastic entry into the film records discography.

attempting to pigeonhole 79.5 into something as narrow as a single genre would be an ill advised, if not impossible task. the new york city band sounds like someone spinning a radio dial with such passionate intensity that all the stations blend together into a single, transcendent, almost spiritual force. its disco to the beat of modern house, its a supremes cover of a cardi b banger, its roland kirk playing jazz through one saxophone, funk through another, and the most earwormy pop tune the 1970s could muster through a third. its an experience one so effecting that with only a self-released 12inch single in circulation, 79.5 had been written up twice in the new yorker on the merit of their live sets alone. their debut album predictions is produced by leon michels and was recorded at the diamond mine in queens the old school way, with the whole band playing the songs in one take and captured to analog tape.

the modern master of subliminal deep house is back with a new album. galcher lustwerk has rightly earned a sterling reputation for his understated, always entrancing approach to 4/4 grooves. after last year s dark bliss lp and recent diversions via his road hog alias, he s offering up eight heavy-lidded cuts to suit the smokers as much as the dancers. get blissed out in the sax-licked delights of skits like -blue lotus- or lock into the mellow raps and steady-ticking rhythms of see you when i see you 200% galcher goes down smooth from start to finish, like all good albums should.

needwant welcome berlin duo kim brown back into the fold with the stellar pleasuredome continuum. comprised of two dynamic breakbeat cuts to sink into and some incredible remixes from earth boys (lets play house) and kemback (omena/futureboogie). helical scan comes straight from the berlin 5am scene with raw breakbeat production and huge hitting pads and rolling synths. whilst the uniquely titled ceramic unicorns is anything but fluffy and cuddly. the pulsating hi-hat, lofi percussion and cosmic chords take you to another level. kim brown is ji-hun kim & julian braun, local heroes on the berlin club scene and rising producers with previous releases on just another beat, retreat, rivulet, rimini, freerange, fauxpas musik, film and permanent vacation. over the past ten years the needwant mantra has been to push the very best in new talent, having provided the platform for the likes of kiwi, the mekanism, maxxi soundsystem, the revenge and many more.

new from the ever discerning nous camp comes ayln s rehtomep, a 25 minute exploration of the kind of unrelenting machine music for which both artist and label have come to prominenc. side a is a journey through sparse syncopated rhythms, industrial noise motifs and the kind of buzz and hum that the heroes of the second wave of techno music championed, culminating in the ep s title track rehtom which is an exercise in analogue techno mastery. side b s delivery is subtly more dulcet, kicking off with digital memories, which has a more classical techno structure than anything that came before, building intricate melodies into an otherwise taut and tightly woven electronic landscape while the closing impulsive sheit is a gentle downbeat number, exploring the space within the music and creating an atmospheric ambient discourse to outro the heady charge of the ep as a whole.

honey soundsystem met october (aka jules) while on a one-night affair in bristol in which he immediately dragged us from an artist dinner to the saddest bear bar in the uk. after a few pints, vetting his taste for drag, boys, and girls that make love to boys who make love to boys, jules confessed he has always wanted to release on hnytrx. and so the hazing began, a year of torturing yet another sexy-stranger into refreshing, reminding, and refining a flurry of demos into the army of skeleton soldiers you now have in possession. money drops, midnight withdrawals, 4 crisp singles: this is the pay day ep gonna make that dance-floor cha-ching bitch! a lot of people hate october so... that is why we are releasing this record in september. but seriously though, upon cracking open this 4 track ep you might wish you had saved the vacuum seal just a couple days longer, keeping these ghosts contained until the month where screaming winds strip trees nude

gabriella vergilov returns to the label s vinyl arm with a set of distinctive hardware techno reuminations to send shivers down your spine. termosfera strides in confidently with a grinding mechanical synth hook that subtly shifts around the 4/4 drum pattern like all the best wormhole techno should. siempre loco is a sparser affair that focuses on space and poise, using minimal ingredients for maximum effect. boring shit bucks against the suggestion of its title to fire off a set of rhythmical cycles that feel indebted to the vast outer reaches of space. detroit hero t-1000 runs with this idea and pings the track into a particularly funky star system somewhere very far away from planet earth.

it s time again for us to welcome another first timer to the second state roster: rocko garoni. having been label manager of sisyphon, in-house imprint of the acclaimed sisyphos club in berlin, garoni is no stranger to curating high quality records, and this time he gets to be curator of his own stunning detection ep. jumping in head first, detection , mischievous number that is equal parts vicious and cunning as it is sensual and inviting. provocative female whispers float over a beat sure to slay any crowd, any time. switching gears, garoni heads into houser territories on phaseful , where glimmers of classic house artifacts are scattered like flickering shimmers over an energetic drum illustration. coming up next is tragedy . it s low slung drums, vast spanning bass and sinister vocal declarations make it an ideal ambassador for the dark mysterious nights. wrapping up the ep is a huge rework of detection by regal, who churns out a burner by cranking up the tempo and tension with crisp drums and an undeniable classic rave leads sure to make the forefathers of techno proud. if it keeps up like this, we expect much more big things in the future from rocko garoni!

an all-time rave classic gets the gerd janson re-loving as he works his magic on the 1992 anthem dont go. 26 years on from it s first release, gerd takes the tempo down a notch laying out that all too familiar drum break, instantly recognisable piano line and julie mcdermott s timeless vocals. his subtle touches and added weight, behind a pounding kick, are sure to set any dancefloor alight. about as euphoric as they get - if this doesn t do the business then god help us all. on the b side, belfast s ejeca flips don t go into a heavy-hitting, rave tinged, techno bomb. his inventive sampling turns the synth stabs and vocals on their heads, making them almost indistinguishable, but no less impactful, from the original. it s over four and a half minutes till the iconic chord progression is heard in it s initial form, before ejeca throws it back into a rapid fire, industrial thumper. lastly, gerd serves up a vip dub mix echoing claps and synth lines into the stratosphere, whilst leaving the vocals at bay, save a short cry of don t go from julie towards the end of the track, allowing those anthemic elements to do the talking. a modern touch on an all-time classic from gerd with a complete reinterpretation from ejeca, this is a heavyweight release and one thats already being played by the biggest and the best out there.

on an unassuming cassette, just labelled ‘robert rental’ in green dymo tape, these demos have lain unheard for years amongst his family’s treasured possessions, cared-for artefacts of a life cut short far too soon.
these songs, which robert recorded in his council flat in battersea in 1980, provide an enticing glimpse into his all-too-infrequent solo work. on most occasions, robert worked with thomas leer, daniel miller or other collaborators. these are rough recordings, tape hiss still in evidence, but his creativity shines through the murk, like uncut diamonds.
